Mateus Iseppe scored the famous "goal that Pelé didn't score" for Atlético-MG in the 3-1 victory against Botafogo, valid for the seventh round of the Brasileirão Sub-17.
In the game's extra time, the number 10 noticed the goalkeeper in advance and took a chance in midfield. The ball covered the opposing archer and even touched the crossbar, before entering the back of the net.

He is the competition's top scorer with nine goals and is in the fight for the top scorer with Ryan Francisco, from São Paulo, with seven, and Sorriso and Kayke, from Athletico-PR and Botafogo, respectively, who have six.

The striker described the feeling of scoring the great goal that closed the scoreboard for Galo against Botafogo and revealed that he already understood the goalkeeper's position throughout the game.

“It was a really good feeling! I was already watching the goalkeeper in advance during the match. As soon as I finished and saw that the goal was going to be scored, I went to celebrate”, he said.

Iseppe's great goal recalls a move performed by Pelé in the 1970 World Cup. On June 3 of that year, in the game in which Brazil beat Czechoslovakia by 4-1, at Jalisco Stadium, in Guadalajara, in the selection's debut in the World Cup, the number 10 risked a shot from the center circle trying to cover up the Czech goalkeeper Ivo Vikto, but was unsuccessful.

That day, the ball traveled 60 meters away at 105 km/h and went out over the goal line. Even without the goal, the move was marked as one of the great moments of world sport.

Team captain, Mateus Iseppe stated that he aimed at artillery before the start of the championship.

“I had this objective of scoring a lot of goals, of course, but the victory is more important. I want to help Atlético, regardless of who scores the goal.”

With the victory, Atlético-MG reached fourth place in Group A, with 11 points, and is four behind the group leader, Corinthians.

“Nothing has been decided yet. We have two big games ahead of us and we will continue to work to qualify.”

Iseppe and Atlético-MG will return to the field for the Brasileirão Sub-17 on September 5th, a Tuesday, at 8 pm, in a stadium yet to be defined.
