Novo Hamburgo striker Matheus Batista looks ahead to the Gauchão quarterfinals against Grêmio.
Striker Matheus Batista returned to wearing the Novo Hamburgo shirt and scored in the 2–0 win over Guarany de Bagé, a result that secured the club’s place in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Campeonato Gaúcho. The goal was the team’s second of the match.
After a spell at Bangu, the player rejoined the Rio Grande do Sul side during this decisive stage of the state championship. In 2025, he was the team’s top scorer in their Gauchão A2 title-winning campaign, netting nine goals in 20 appearances.
“Returning to Novo Hamburgo and scoring in my re-debut is very special. This club opened doors for me, I experienced important moments here and have always had great affection for it. I’m happy to help with the goal and, above all, to contribute to the qualification. It’s the result of hard work and the confidence everyone showed in me since my return,” he said.
Now qualified, Novo Hamburgo will face Grêmio in the quarterfinals. The match also marks Matheus’ reunion with his former club, where he played between 2015 and 2018.
“It will be a very special match for me. I have great respect for Grêmio, where I also experienced important moments, but today my full focus is on Novo Hamburgo.
We know how difficult it will be, but we are confident, well prepared and believe in our work. We will compete and stay focused from the start to fight for this spot,” he added.
